Cast OutlineSuccess in our first week. Major congratulations are deserved for incredibly progress in our first week of raiding. Two normal and one heroic boss kill (and a 3% wipe on normal Brakenspore) was far and above the expectations set the week prior. Give yourselves a big pat on the back for a job well done!
Guild Night is online. I want to remind everyone that our new event, Guild Night, has officially begun. Every Wednesday from 7 PM – 9 PM (PT), we take a break from Warcraft raiding to enjoy other aspects of the Blizzard multiverse of games. This Wednesday (12/10/2014) we will be entering the world of Sanctuary in a Diablo III dungeon crawl. You can check out the events lineup and vote for your favorite activities on the Guild Night subpage.
Welcome to new members. A very warm welcome to all the new members of House of Zug. I understand that joining a new guild can be a confusing experience, so I have no created a “Help Me: I’m New to the Guild” thread to answer your questions and guide you in the right direction.
Holiday Reminder. The holidays are upon us, and it's reasonable to assume plans are hectic. Please note, the guild will, obviously, not be raiding on Dec. 25; however, we will be hosting a raid on Tuesday, Dec. 23 for those who can attend. Guild Night will also be canceled on Wednesday Dec. 24 and 31 in reverence to the holidays. Our standard schedule will resume in January.
Changes to website. I have been working hard to update the website with as much information as I can possibly provide. However, my work is never complete, and I could really use your feedback. Please take a moment and post your ideas to improve houseofzug.com.
Join the War Room. House of Zug uses a mobile app called GroupMe to communicate on-the-fly. This app is free (although standard messaging rates may apply if you are still on a phone plan designed by Alexander Bell). Raiders especially should use this app as it helps keep the officers posted of sudden changes in your availability. To access the House of Zug War Room, simply download the GroupMe app and use the ID number provided here. (You can also just pester an officer to add you.) Your identity and phone number will remain completely anonymous.
Goals for HighmaulEliminate pugging. New Gladiators are being promoted every day, and, by the end of January, we should be in a position to completely eliminate the need for non-guild raiders. This will dramatically reduce idle time in raids (while we wait for people to download vent, etc.).
Recruit new gladiators. House of Zug is officially recruiting, so please be on the lookout for new members that match our ideal member profile. Recruitment will continue until we have 30 confirmed Gladiators (enough to ensure a strong group each raid night).
Be patient. Despite our immediate success, I want to remind everyone that House of Zug is not (at least for now) competing for server rank or competitive progression. Many of our raiders are taking their very first steps into raiding, and the officers are focusing as much of our energy as possible to provide critical feedback to these team members. Those of you who have ten years of raiding under your belts may need to dawn your patience caps and keep a little Advil near your desk this raid tier. However, this dedication to our junior raiders will result in long-term results in future tiers. The last thing we want to do going into patches 6.1 and 6.2 is to still be focusing on fundamentals. As we move onto more difficult content, do not be discouraged if we run into some barriers.
Take it slow. Some of you are super excited to get gear and maximize your characters, and I think this is wonderful! However, there are many who also work full-time jobs and come home to young children. House of Zug is a two-night, flexible guild established to provide raiding opportunities to dedicated players with alimited schedule. It is for this reason that I have clearly outlined the Gladiator requirements in our Raiding sub-site. These are the official standards for HoZ raiding and anyone who meets them is welcome on our team. If you are looking for bleeding-edge progression, I would be happy to recommend guilds for you. However, if you are looking to make steady progression with a group of dedicated and mature players, stick with Zug! We won't disappoint.
Work on Normals. Our primary goal for 6.0 is to clear Highmaul on normal-mode difficulty. Although we may dabble in Heroics for extra gear, our focus is learning these bosses and progressing through the starter difficulty. With a full roster of qualified players, we will get more ambitious in future tiers. Please have patience.
On the HorizonThe following items will not likely go into effect until mid-to-late January 2015, but I wanted to preview them now so that you are aware of what is coming down the pipeline.
New loot system. Once we are free of the need to pug additional raiders (at approx. 30 Gladiators), HoZ will unveil a new (and extremely awesome) loot system called EP/GP. This system will add additional incentive for raiders to attend our events while ensuring that new and part-time raiders receive the correct ratio of loot-earned to raids-attended as the veteran players. There will be a full Zugcast and State of the Guild explaining this new system, so don’t stress out just yet, but I can assure you now, in my 10-years of GMing, EP/GP is by far the best and most-fair loot system I have ever seen. In three years of using it, I have never had a single complaint!
Gladiator requirements enforced (Jan 15). The holidays can be a stressful time for everyone, so the officers did not wish to put the additional burden of Gladiator requirements and min-maxed optimization on top of everyone’s already full plates. As such, we have allowed players with a minimum item level of 630 to attend raids (even if they have not completed the other requirements of the Gladiator). However, as we move on to more challenging content, we will begin enforcing a strict Gladiator-only invite policy to raids. This requirement will go into effect on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Players who need help meeting these minimum requirements should contact an officer for additional resources or guidance. A guide to Proving Grounds: Gold can be found here.
Upgraded requirements. As we progress through more content, the requirements will obviously need to be adjusted to accommodate our new goals. Expect a small adjustment to the Gladiator requirements in mid-January (Example: Min. iLvl adjusted from 630 to 635). Note all current Gladiators must meet these adjusted requirements to maintain their rank.
New raider rank: Kor’Kron. The rank of Kor’Kron is scheduled to activate around the end of January. This new rank (above Gladiator) offers raiders a permanent, guaranteed invite to every raid in return for the player's high attendance rating (85%+). Unlike Gladiators, who are granted the flexibility to attend raids as they please, Kor’Kron raiders make a commitment to attend every single raid (or give sufficient and advance notification of their absence). In other words, since the Kor’Kron has blocked off his or her schedule to accommodate us, we guarantee him or her an invite to each raid. We will be outlining the specific incentives and requirements for Kor’Kron in a later announcement.
Thanks for your continued feedback and participation! Please feel free to comment with your questions and feedback.
(Sorry for the random noises in the background from my dog and the shortness of breath. I did the full 25-mins in one take!)
Zug Zug Heroes of Dreanor,
Today is December 2 which means raiding is finally here! We have already begun awarding the first Gladiator promotions, and many more are on the way. I appologize for how quickly things have moved so far; I promise they will calm down! The first weeks of any expansion are always a mad dash, and I've tried my best to keep everyone informed and on track with their raiding priorities. (In the future, expect a State of the Guild and/or Newsletter about once a month.) Those of you who are a little behind the curve, don't be discouraged; we have 30 Gladiator slots available (and only 3 taken as of this moment).
With that in mind, this post provides an in-depth look at the expectations and requirements for our first adventure into Highmaul. I encourage everyone to give it a read before invites go out at 5:15 PM (Pacific Time) today (Tuesday, Dec. 2). I have also attached guides to the first boss of Highmaul (Kargath Bladefist), please watch this preview video and read either Icy-Veins' guide or the Dungeon Journal before accepting your raid invite. (I will be explaining every boss, but it helps if everyone has an idea about what to expect.)
Thank you for your patience, interest, and faith!
Outline1) Raiding Expectations. Previous information regarding gearing and raiding expectations has been updated and consolidated into a new section of the website entitled "Raiding".
Please note that beginning Dec. 2, weekly World Bosses (which drop epic Highmaul gear) are available as are Seals of Tempered Fate (which allow you to reroll boss loot 3x/week). On Dec. 9, Highmaul LFR opens (offering 640 loot).
Also, until we can fill an entire raid team (10 players) with Gladiators, we will need to use pick-up players to fill the raid. As such, the officers have decided to allow Members with 630 equipped ilvl to join our raids even if they have not yet earned the Gold Challenge Mode requirement. Moreover, we will not be strictly enforcing optimization for enchants, flasks, and potions, as many of these items are hyper-inflated on the Auction House. These exceptions will expire January 1, so make plans over the holiday break to optimize correctly.
2) Initial Raiding Goals. I want to emphasize (especially for those who may not have raided outside of LFR before) that progression raiding is a slow process. It is not uncommon to spend hours or even nights without seeing a single piece of loot while we are learning a new boss. Please come dawning your patience hats. If you choose to attend a raid, we expect your full and unwaivering discipline.
3) Holiday Schedule.
4) Guild Night. The votes are in, and it's a tie! The first three weeks of December will feature three different Guild Night events: DIII, HotS, and Crappy WoW PVP.
